The origin of festival centers around a scholarly government official named Chu Yuan. He was a really good man and everyone love him very much. However, there was a coworker who make the emperor dislike Chu Yuan. Unable to regain the respect of the emperor, in his sorrow Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Lo River.
Because of their admiration for Chu Yuan, the local people paddle their boat to search for him while throwing rice into the waters to appease the river dragons. Although they were unable to find Chu Yuan, their efforts are still commemorated today during the Dragon Boat Festival.
The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs to attempts to rescue Chu Yuan. Throw bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice into the water. Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero. This later on turned into the custom of eating rice dumplings.
歐耶•ᴥ•)ノ：Here comes the Dragon boat Festival again ! Daddy do you know how to say “粽子” in English?
歐耶•ᴥ•)ノ：OK, you’re right, but if you tell this to foreigners who never this before, they may confusing.
You can say sticky rice dumplings or Chinese tamale, they can understand you better.
